Weaning 2023

100 days ago the first Tarata Hills stud lamb hit the deck and after weathering wind, snow and their fair share of rain, the class of 2023 have left the nest. A very minor day in the yards for us has seen the lambs weaned, drenched, weighed and put out onto some fresh pasture. Finally getting the Shearwell EID tag system up and running has really increased the speed of this process and saved a lot of fighting and squinting trying to read the VID. The lambs were drenched with 3ml Converge Oral to rid them of any worm burden before going onto a well rested ryegrass clover mix paddock. Weights this year have trended upward (as seen on the graphs below) moving from 27.6 kg to 29.9 kg. This shift can probably be attributed to the abundance of grass growth this year. Overall we are extremely happy with the flock this season and we are excited to see how the lambs will grow out.

Now our focus turns to our mob of 60 2th rams. These boys are all shedded up and piling on the pounds for our sale on the 7th of February. This is the largest pool of rams that we have had going into a sale which gives us the luxury of being extremely selective with the quality of stock that will be put on show. Stay up to date with our progress leading up to the sale by following us on both Facebook and Instagram.
